Transformational

Incremental delivery, transformational intent — never separate.

Transformational means every sprint is treated as a step toward systemic change, not just a unit of output.

Teams can ship fast without ever moving the organization forward — velocity and transformation are not the same thing, and it’s easy to optimize for one while quietly losing the other. This pillar exists to keep them connected: every sprint’s output is mapped back to the transformation roadmap, not just the backlog.

This is also where legacy processes get retired deliberately, rather than left running in parallel with AI-augmented ones indefinitely “just in case.” Running both systems forever isn’t caution — it’s a tax that quietly erodes the very velocity gains AI augmentation was supposed to create.

Adoption is tracked here as seriously as feature completion. A capability that ships but isn’t adopted hasn’t transformed anything — it’s just added to the backlog of things the organization now has to maintain.

In Practice

  • Map every sprint’s output back to the transformation roadmap, not just the backlog
  • Retire legacy processes on a schedule as AI-augmented ones prove out
  • Track adoption and behavior change alongside feature completion, not as an afterthought
  • Name the systemic outcome each initiative ladders to before work begins, not after it ships
AADV™ Lens

AADV™ tracks adoption depth here — whether AI-augmented practices are actually being used by the team, or just available to them.

A Useful Test

If a completed sprint can’t be traced to a line on the transformation roadmap, ask whether it was actually necessary — or just familiar.
